Welcome to Mr. Stewart's Class web page! Here you will find lesson plans and homework announcements for all of Mr. Stewart's 8th grade math classes.
Pre Algebra
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Pre-Algebra provides students with an introduction to algebraic skills while preparing them for an Algebra 1 Class. Students will explore analyzing and representing linear functions, solving linear equations, and solving systems of linear equations. Students will be provided an introduction to geometry and measurement by analyzing two-and three- dimensional space and figures by using distance and angles. Data analysis, and number operations will also be explored as a fundamental background for statistics.
Algebra 1
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Algebra provides a systematic way to represent mathematical relationships and analyze change. Students need to understand the concepts and symbols of algebra, the structures that govern the manipulation of the symbols, and how the symbols can be used to record ideas and events. Students will explore patterns that are linear and quadratic in the first year of algebra and should develop the notion of families of functions. A solid conceptual foundation in algebra should be developed before students engage extensively in symbolic manipulation.
Students will use algebra as a tool for representing and solving a variety of practical problems. The use of manipulatives and calculators used to interpret algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities and to analyze functions.
